For the first time in many years, the 8.3 square mile city of Cooper City, Fl. in Southwest Broward county has been recognized for leading the state in growth. Estimates recently released by the U.S. Census bureau noted that population in Cooper City rose 22% during the four year period from 2010 to 2014. Residential development of the former 530 acre Waldrep Dairy Farm, annexed by the city in 2004, added 1,654 housing units in a new development known as Monterra Cooper City. Given the quality of the development, mix of housing provided (apartments, townhomes & single family homes), demand for new housing & desirable Cooper City address, Monterra sold quickly. City officials added that the city's low crime rate, quality of schools and number of city parks also contibuted to its population increase. In 2010, city population was 28,548 residents; in 2014, it was 34,923.
