Rules for Firing Fireworks in Clarksville TN

As the 4th of July is right around the corner in Clarksville TN, you will notice the many fireworks tents and displays pop up all over city and on the edges of town. These are busy shopping places and will get busier the closer we get to the holiday. Clarksville's City Council has a City Ordinance spelling out some definite rules about the setting off, exploding, or firing of fireworks within the city limits. Just because they are being sold legally it doesn't mean you can fire them any time you want.

Clarksville's City Council has an Official Code for the City of Clarksville about fireworks and the rules are very specific. Within the city limits these rules apply. To read the minutes from the Council meeting click here.

The rules say at no time of day, any time of the year are fireworks allowed in any City Park. Not only the discharging of fireworks but the mere possession of having them with you in the park is reason to be receive a citation by the either the city police or the local Fire Marshall. Your fireworks will be confiscated. Of course there is an exception to the City Parks rule and that is the City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department may use fireworks during their special events.

To see a grand fireworks celebration safely discharged over the river attend this year's City sponsored event Independence Day Celebration on July 3 at Liberty Park on July 3 starting at 6pm.

It used to be illegal anytime to set off fireworks within the city limits even on the 4th of July. You could hear fireworks being set off all over town and wondered if police were racing from one location to another to spoil the holiday fun. Clarksvillians have always been able to purchase them within the city limits but not discharge them.

The City Council has made a further clarification to allow certain dates and times where they are allowed to be discharged. You must be at least 16 years of age and under the supervision of an adult or person 18 years old or older to discharge fireworks. These are the dates that fireworks may be used within the city limits of Clarksville TN.

July 1-5 from 6pm to 10pm

December 28-December 30 from 6pm to 10pm

December 31 from 6pm to 12 midnight

January 1 from 6pm to 10pm

For those Clarksvillians wanting further information as to which products are included in this ordinance, they are firecrackers, sparklers, torpedoes, Roman candles, powder-loaded pinwheels or are any other article that can be described or sold as a firework.

Use caution and follow the Rules for Firing Fireworks in Clarksville TN. Be safe and monitor them when setting using around children. Have a Safe and Happy 4th of July.

Good Sunday morning Debbie Reynolds -

Good information!  Albuquerque is under a no fireworks law again this year.  We've been blessed with some good rain but it's still too dry to risk fireworks.

Debbie, It is illegal to possess (and use, of course) personal fireworks where I live. This has been the case for so long, most of us have "forgotten" the fun of shooting off fireworks.

It is really stunning to travel to another county and see fireworks stands just like we had as kids.

To think that the Fourth of July is INDEPENDENCE DAY. We are hardly independent anymore.

This is good information for area residents and visitors. Many areas prohibit the use of fireworks.

The same thing here where they can be sold but not used. However everyone seems to and makes one heck of a loud and obnoxious racket especially late at night.

Hi Debbie.  I've retired from setting off my own fireworks. Much too dangerous.  It's more fun to watch the professionals do it.

I was never a fan of setting of fireworks at home. Some things are best left to the professionals.
