WARNING!! Well Abandonment revisions.
My husbands drain field company occasionally deals with the issue of well abandonment.
Last week his well guy showed up fully loaded with permits and all of the usual paper work on the table.
Until very recently the wells were filled with pea gravel and toped off with 4 FT of cement.
The well digger who is an upstanding businessperson was never notified by D.O.E. of the new revisions until DOE inspector showed up on there job site.
You now need, (when dealing with a well that is 20+ feet deep) 15 ft of cement!!
That is an increase of; oh say about $7000.00 to the property owner and what about the environmental issue of putting that much cement in the ground?? I mean after all just ask a cement truck driver what happens if he evens leaves trace amounts of cement on the ground ...yeah they have to use special tubs to wash it in because it is supposedly hazardous to the ground water.....ok but go ahead and start dumping 20 ft of it straight down a very large whole
