So is it OK to follow up? Absolutely! In fact, it is expected from us to do so. The method of delivery makes all the difference. While there’s nothing wrong with being persistent, it is very easy to annoy those whom we want business from.
Here are some tips I use when it comes to following up; we all have different personalities and what works for me may not work for you so use what best fits:
Tip 1: Being Persistent Doesn’t Mean Every Day
If you’re in my email, phone, Linkedin, Facebook every day asking for business, you’re not getting a dime from me, you are annoying!
We all have busy schedules and it’s normal to prioritize our tasks. It’s fine not to get an immediate response and it is perfectly fine to follow up in three to five days. Always be nice and do not mention the fact they never responded your first email..trust me, they know.
Tip 2: Ask If You Should Stop Contacting Them
Perhaps they have decided not to do business with you ever...ever! Wouldn’t you want to know that early on? I do! Politely ask them if you should stop contacting them and leave the door open for them to reach out to you if there’s ever a change. If they are professional adults, they would appreciate you asking.
Tip 3: Try Different Methods of Reaching Out
Some simply don’t read emails and prefer face-to-face contact. You would never know if you don’t try different methods. If emails are not working, sent them a card or just do a pop-by if that’s an option.
Tip 4: Be Different Than Others
If you are a Realtor® there are hundred others who reach out claiming to be the best of the best. Be different and show them why they should work with you. Words really don’t mean anything unless you put them into action.
Our Time is valuable and we usually don't appreciate those who waste it...be conscious of others around you when following up; be persistent in a good way, not annoying!
