Texas Memorial Day Floods

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Realty ~ 512.750.6899

I’m sure everyone has heard or read about the heavy rains and massive flooding in Texas. We have been in a serious drought for 5 years and praying for rain. Our prayers have been answered and then some!

There are those who’ve lost their lives and families whose homes are destroyed and possessions vanished. The American Red Cross has expanded its relief efforts and mobilized volunteers, vehicles, food and relief supplies to help the thousands of people impacted by these storms. They depend on financial donations to provide shelter and food, and they’re asking for the public’s help now. Donations can be made online, text REDCROSS to 90999, or call 1-800-REDCROSS.

There is a live web cam at Go Lake Travis. This puts in perspective how much rain we have received and the power of massive storms!

Check out this video of the flooding compliments of DLR Productions:

I moved to Austin Memorial Day weekend in 1981 when the last major floods occurred..it’s hard to believe 34 years later considerable destruction could occur again.

The news from Texas is awful to say the least, Dorie. Water is so scary for so many reasons. Hopefully, you are staying safe.

Having been a Texas resident three different times in my life I've been keeping track of this. On the upside- Texas now has no areas of "severe drought." On the downside- people have lost their lives for this.

It reminds me of the situation in 1915 San Diego. The drough was so severe that they brought in a "rainmaker" named Charles Hatfield. He did his ritual and the rains were so severe that it became a devastating tragedy. I'm hoping the flood waters can subside and that people can return to their homes or begin the rebuilding. Thanks for the links to the red cross.
