What do you do on a "sick day" in real estate?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with (831) 626-4000 CA #01772851 HI #RB-21268

This morning I woke up and did not have a voice. Well, it was like a bullfrog's croak. And it did not seem to be a good idea to leave the house in fear of spreading whatever was ailing me.

SO WHAT DID I DO TODAY?

1. Texted a lot. I mean a LOT! Anyone whom I hadn't been in touch with for a couple of weeks. No, I do not text much normally, I like to TALK to people.

2. Wrote an Activerain blog - but it deleted itself. For some reason, it wanted me to log on when I tried to post it, and when I logged on it was gone. Not even in "draft" form. As it turned out, that was a good thing. It was a bit of a rant. When I tried to rewrite it, I realized I was "over it".

3. Did take a call from a client who wants to buy a home. When she heard I was under the weather, she was very understanding. "Any time, let me know..." Love that attitude.

4. Made some chicken soup with a lot of great vegetables, and ate it all. Followed by some French Brie. I can't be that sick with that kind of appetite.

5. Kept checking my email, Docusign and fax, but none of the forms I'd sent out for approval or signature came back. None. Strange. Maybe everyone else is under the weather as well, or starting their weekend early? Under normal circumstances I would have called or texted each of them to see where they are. But not today, today I was feeling MELLOW.

6. Sent out a bill to a new client. Very satisfying. Even got a response that more business was coming my way. YES.

7. Read several chapters of the "OUTLANDER" books. I'm close to the American Revolution, certainly what led up to it. Sorry, I'm so far ahead of the TV series, can't even watch it now.

8. Saved a baby bird. Couldn't help but hear a ruckus in my backyard. What with two cats and a dog, that's not unusual. But all of a sudden birds were flying into my living room, followed by a little ball of fluff along the floor. A little one had obviously dropped out of its nest in the Lychee tree out there, and the parents were frantic. So I built a little nest amongst the orchids that are growing up the trunk of the tree, put the little guy in there, and everyone was happy.

And that was pretty much my day. Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow because weekends have been pretty hectic in my life lately.

Have a great weekend, everyone.

Thank you for your well wishes. Yes, can't believe all the things I did get done. Today is Saturday, and I talked to a client for about a half hour on the phone, but that was it for the voice! Just made some more chicken soup, and will just stay on my electronic gagets today.

Love that you saved that baby bird.  As for the sickness, thank goodness for technology.  There's nothing I hate more than losing my voice, because like you, I like to talk.

Hella - You are describing what I was like last week.  I had contracted a terrible cold that hit me right in the voice box.  It is amazing how much we use our vocal chords in the course of performing our work.  I hope you get well soon.  For me, it's been about a 10 day experience.

Like Myrl Jeffcoat 's episode, mine is stretching out too. In the meantime, went to the Globetrotters on Sunday with my garndsons. Today, to my dermatologist. Still not feeling up to par but hanging in there. Real estate is rolling along well without having to use my voice too much. And thank you all for visiting here.

You're busier than I would be with a sick day. I'd pull the covers over my head, moan and groan and go back to sleep. Just ask my husband what a delight I am to be around when I'm sick.

That sure was a nasty summer cold or whatever. Feeling great now, swimming an hour almost every day. That's a great workout. Must remind myself not to overwork, which I had done. May was absolutely crazy!
