Lately, I've been getting lots of unsolicited e-mail (i.e., spam) from Realtors who have evidently stopped selling real estate in order to train others. Now, this "training' is not about how to write a contract or how to market your clients' listings. It's about how to make tons of money with short sales and foreclosures. Most of it is really not about helping out clients who might also be investors. It's about me spending my money to learn how to spend more of my money to invest in foreclosures and short sales so I can, in turn, make tons of money.
Are you dizzy, yet?
The thing about a lot of these offers is that they come from people whose names I recognize as being local Realtors. I don't know them personally. I used to see them on grocery carts and bus stops. Now, I guess they decided e-mail marketing is easier and "training" other Realtors is probably an easier way [for them] to make money [for them].
Hey, I'm all for entrepreneurs going out there to find ways to create an income for themselves and, in a general way, I would much rather have a practicing (or recently practicing) Realtor teaching about real estate. Yet, there's something about this trend that just doesn't seem quite right. Maybe it's because these Realtors are having such a hard time actually selling real estate that they decided to branch out.
It puts me in mind of an old saying: "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach."
But maybe I'm just being cynical.
I agree with you. Very unproductive for us agents working hard to keep with the bills. Thanks for sharing. Lu
