What is Clutter anyway? Staging in Burlington

By
Home Stager

When the Staging shows hit TV the buzz word was De-cluttering.

So what is this Clutter that everyone is talking about? Why is it so important when you sell?

Clutter is basically too much of anything. It can be a table full of family photos, a collection of dolls, figurines or fairies.

A kitchen counter filled with everyday items is cluttered. A china cabinet full of glasses, dishes, candle sticks etc is cluttered.

The reason we De-clutter is to help the buyer see the features of your home .... the part they are buying.

De-cluttering makes your home look cleaner, larger and more appealing.

Buyers are looking for Spacious Rooms for that size of home. Buyers want lots of Natural Light so cut back on the window dressings. Buyers want Storage and 'stuff' everywhere tells them your house is lacking storage space.

Your Buyer should be focused on how their lifestyle will fit into your house not on your 'stuff'.

Use a few special items to accent the features of the home and keep it looking homey. But, there is a fine line and if you cross it, you only end up with clutter.

Remember, Less is More when you are selling.

Janice, you offer excellent advice, and definitely less is better.

Thanks for the advice, Janice.  The photos tell the story very well.  It's easy to talk about how to declutter - but the pictures are definitely worth a thousand words.

Excellent points, Janice.  Especially your statement which reads, "The reason we De-clutter is to help the buyer see the features of your home ."

It can be hard for a Seller to accept that concept Joan Cox . Their 'stuff' has such meaning to them but it means nothing to a Buyer.

Thankyou Myrl Jeffcoat

It can be a fine line between accenting a feature and burying it.
