Delray Beach, FL- An Ideal Place to Live
While Delray Beach’s population is just over 64,000, we have everything you could hope for including good medical care, fine dining, shopping, entertainment and more. Our average high temperature is 86.6 degrees in August and a low average of 70 degrees in February! Welcome, Snowbirds!!!
Delray Beach began life in 1894 as Linton when U. S. Congressman William Linton purchased land here. It happened to coincide with Henry Flagler’s building of the Florida East Coast Railway. In 1898, the name was changed to Delray.
For many of us in Delray, the hub of activity is Atlantic Avenue, which runs east and west and ends at the Atlantic Ocean, and just happens to be the longest main street in Florida.
It is here where the annual Delray Affair is held. And, throughout the year, there are various Arts & Crafts Festivals, parades, Art & Jazz on the Avenue, and Dinner on the Ave.
Delray is growing and continues to attract retirees, businesses, and international clientele. However, the city is dedicated to maintaining its Village by the Sea image. There is a very proactive Delray CRA (Community Redevelopment Agency) that protects and guides the growth of the community.
The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens remains a favorite for tourists and the local community. There are 16 acres that surround the Museum, and once you enter you are transported to a land of beauty and serenity.
The Delray Yacht Cruises- offers visitors an opportunity to see the area from a different perspective…. via the Intracoastal Waterway. You can learn more about the area as well as have a relaxing tour seeing some of the magnificent mansions that line the Intracoastal.
And just because it may be 75 degrees during the holidays, Delray Beach celebrates with its very famous 100 foot Christmas Tree. The activity begins around Thanksgiving and continues after the New Year, with an ice skating rink and other fun activities.
And Delray makes it easy for everyone to get around the Atlantic Avenue area with the Downtown Roundabout Trolley that runs along the Tri-Rail down Atlantic Avenue and back and the very busy Delray Downtowner that uses electric open-air vehicles to get you around the area! It’s free to use (we hope you’ll tip them) and to make it easy, you can download an app to your iPhone or Android smartphone.
And there’s more in Delray!
The Delray Center for the Arts at Old School Square and there is always something going on there…...free Friday night concerts, the Green Market, exhibits, plays, festivals and so much more.
The Pineapple Grove Arts District, just north of Atlantic Avenue, continues to grow with restaurants, boutiques and art galleries. It’s the perfect area to have dinner and stroll for a visit of our area’s up and coming artists.

But one of the best reasons why Delray Beach is an ideal place to live is our beaches.
There are two miles of public beaches, all with easy access and parking. You can find metered parking along A1A or public lots across the street. At the south end are several volleyball courts and kayak rentals. You can bring your own beach chairs or rent from the local beach service company.
Hungry? Just walk across the street and you’ll find several restaurants to accommodate every patron- you can enjoy a relaxing meal inside or grab a slice or a cone and head back to the beach.
Why Delray Beach? Why not!!!
