Seems like I spent the better part of today and yesterday writing articles that I felt were interesting. I see many who are clicking to read them but not very many comments. What gives? If the forum is for some feedback, I'm all ears.

Is there a special codeword I'm leaving out? Does it have something to do with the fruit at the bottom of each page? I'm getting better at the spelling of pomegranate..LOL.

Hi Kelli,

Sometimes it just takes a while to get your writing voice. I would recommend reading some of the top 'featured' posts, and the most subscribed bloggers just to find out what makes for a good quality blog. Good formatting and graphics help attract readership. If your blog is just one big paragraph with no pictures, it typically gets passed over. Tell us about Bend. That's one of the greatest places on the planet! Tell us, show us, why. Contribute good quality local content posts to Localism.

Kelli,

If you are serious in your desire to write a featurable post, feel free to contact me. I would be happy to tell you exactly what has worked for me.

Rich J's suggestions are good ones. One thing to understand though is that local content articles are usually featured to Localism. If you would like to see some excellent examples, check out Laurie Manny. Her local content in CA is some of the best I have seen on the network. If you are looking to get featured on AR, you will need to take a different approach.

It's not hard, but it is not exactly easy either. Most writers do not appear willing to put forth the effort. If you are, let me know.

Hey, Kelli, nice to meet you!  I'm with Rich, add some pictures.  I tend to scroll quickly through posts and stop when something catches my eye.

Give me that "something" with paragraph breaks (we're lazy and don't want to read too much) and with bold words that tell me when something is importantIf I'm skimming and you hit me with some interesting tidbit, I'll stay and read and tell you what I liked about it.

Mark is right about that "different" approach, too.  To get your posts Featured you need to be controversial somehow, heartwarming, mention lots of the other members of Active Rain or just somehow stand out.  The content on local stuff (that will be what actually pays off for you someday) may not be "interesting" enough to the other bloggers here, but it WILL be what the audience you're TRYING to reach wants to hear.  Don't worry too much about points and being featured, build up your blog so that someone in your town will find you online and see that you're the area expert.  Posts written in your own voice will help someone feel comfortable enough to contact you.

Now at the risk of completely hijacking your post I'm going to leave you alone now!  :o)  Good luck and I'm looking forward to seeing your next post!

Hi Kelli,

I read your post through Mark Flander's contest Blog and wanted to say that "I understand".  We've been with AR since early November and we have posted about 90 times.  Out of that number, we were featured a whopping (hold onto your seat) TWO times.  But in the midst, we've made connections with other agents and professionals across the U.S. and beyond.  The site keeps getting bigger and better but I too have suffered the effects of depression from lack of Features.  It does sort of make it hard to keep going and getting lifted enough to go on, for sure.  Being a middle child, I understand the concept of being overlooked quite well.  So I suppose all I can say to you is that if you committ yourself to this site, take the committment like any other, with the knowledge that disappointments are inevidable.  But so are the challenges and the successes.  Good luck on the contest.  Hope you win and hope to see you around in the Rain!
