Branson's Number One Tourist Attraction Putting On A Show
Update: If you are in the Branson area from March 17-19th, the gates will be open as there is repair work on one of the power generating turbines. Don't forget to check the Table Rock Lake Dam Floodgates open!
The rain came down across the Midwest in the last few weeks. A few of these heavy rains were accompanied by lightning, which affected two of the turbines that generate power from the water flow of Table Rock Lake into Lake Taneycomo.
All ten gates are opened slightly, while the turbines are being inspected for damage.
For the Branson tourist, it is a rare site to see in the springtime, no less in June.
It is a spectacular sight and sound to hear the roar of the water flowing through the gates from Table Rock Lake into Lake Taneycomo. The scenic overlooks of Table Rock Dam has been a popular stop to view this unique event.
Lake Taneycomo is a cold waterway, fed by the deep waters of Table Rock Lake through the turbines generating power.
Shepard of the Hills Fish Hatchery is located on the Lake Taneycomo side of the dam, and provides cold water trout to Lake Taneycomo. The fish hatchery produces over 1.1 million rainbow and brown trout every year.
It is fun for the entire family to see the "raceways" viewing the various sizes of the trout as they grow. There are guided tours of the fish hatchery every day from Memorial Day to Labor Day, or you can always visit and tour on your own. There is "fish food" you can purchase for a few coins to feed the trout and help them grow.
Yes, you can bass fish on Table Rock Lake AND run the cold water of Lake Taneycomo fly fishing for trout. It is a unique fishing adventure and many fisherman have chosen Branson as their vacation home or second home.
Load up your fishing gear and head to the Ozarks to enjoy the most variety of fishing you may ever see in one location!
