I have no idea how old I was when I built my first house, but I believe it started with Tinker Toys, Bricks, and Lincoln Logs.
Bricks was my favorite because it had windows and doors. For some reason, I loved the Lincoln Logs but a house without doors and windows, just wasn't a house to me. I loved to hear the sound of my plastic bricks click together and it helped me to draw better houses on paper including bricks, mortar, doors and windows. It wasn't until I became a little Tom boy in my black and white saddle shoes and playsuit with two long braids flopping around as I ran around and climbed higher up the trees, pushing long strands of hair away from my face as I built forts in the forest that I seriously started considering building my own real cool Log Cabin by the lake with blueberry and strawberry trails that led to steep mountains after I got married and had six kids who could help me build my log cabin. To be honest, I don't even think I cared who my husband was, just as long as I had six kids and six of their friends to help chop down the logs and carry my tools. ♥♥♥♥♥♥ + ♥♥♥♥♥♥
But then there were cards on rainy days. When I didn't have anyone to play with, I took the deck of cards and stacked them up to design my own village! That was always a great challenge until my dog wagged her tail and knocked down my house of cards and I had to start over again. My father always said, a dog teaches you responsibility. I say, a dog teaches a kid patience and they never blame you for anything! Yep it's true, a dog is a kids best friend and they never argue with you either plus they make the best garbage disposals when your mother tells you to eat everything on your plate and you don't like the food :)
The fact that I am an agent doesn't surprise me. What are my favorite smells in new construction? It's the smell of fresh cut wood and good old fashioned dirt right after the rain. What do I like to see better than walking the floorplan in a model home? It's those giant blue prints prepared by the architect. After the home is built, I enjoy looking out the windows and opening and closing the door. Plus I love to ring the doorbell!
I love doing what I do and I don't think I'd be in the business today if I didn't enjoy helping people find quality homes. A home is more than the foundation, roof, chimney, bricks, mortar, doors and windows, it's the celebration of a life time achievement!
