Bathroom Caulking 101

Preventing the potential costly water damage inside our bathrooms is just as important as directing water away from our homes. Maintaining these easily penetrable areas is less of a chore and less expensive than making the hundreds if not thousands in costly repairs that are necessitated by water damage.

Here's a brand new home... BRAND NEW!!! Picture in your mind a decorative tile surround in the spare bathroom right??? Yes you're right... but there is more than meets the eye here. Where the tile meets the drywall at the top are the gaps I see. Gaps where water penetration can and will wreck that entire decorative tile surround. WHY??? No caulking where the two dissimilar materials meet. Many builders and/or their sub trades do not pay attention to these minor finishing details; where in the end, you the homeowner will pay from your pockets from the damage behind the wall. In this case the gaps were in excess of 1 1/2" deep.

ONE SIMPLE WORD: LAZY!!!
