Once Children - But Now Old Farts

By
Real Estate Agent

A few years ago, I came across an old picture of my 4th grade class.  Over the years I had remained in touch with a couple kids from back in the day.  It was decided to attempt to locate as many of those pictured in the photo, and have a reunion.  It took some work, but we located most.

In 2011, we held a reunion at an old pizza restaurant, which was operating in the neighborhood at the time we attended school there.  22 came for the gathering.  One even flew in from the state of Maryland.

A repeat performance was held today, and a smaller group, about half the size, attended.  It was truly fun to reconnect.  Below is the original 4th grade class picture.  I am the little girl next to the teacher.  She has her hand on my shoulder.  Yes, back then, I was one of the smallest in the class; but today, I'm among the tallest of the girls.  Yes, that date on the picture (1952) is correct! Normally, I would blur out the year, but at this stage of life, whatya gonna do to me, steal my birthday?

It is funny when old farts gather and try putting ancient memories back together like a jigsaw.  Some remember certain things.  And, there is a whole lot of mis-remembering that may go on! Confusion can reign until it all gets sorted out.  A hilarious process, but oh so very fun!

Here's the photo from 1952, followed by the one taken today!

Myrl Jeffcoat ~ I love this post for many reasons... This post is a great reminder about something I firmly believe "even though our bodies get older through out the years our spirit doesn't and stays young...

Good morning Myrl Jeffcoat ,

What fun that must have been to reconnect, not once but twice. Perhaps an annual tradition? What a wonderful photo to treasure the memories

You were a doll then Myrl Jeffcoat and you still are today. Your 4th grade teacher is probably still in the classroom today. In junior high we had a teacher who looked just like George Washington but he (George) would have been 40 years ahead of Bruce Jenner if you know what I mean.

Bob "RealMan" Timm  - You mention that you had a teacher that looked just like George Washington.  I had one that did too.  It was in the 7th grade, and HER name was Mrs. Franklin!

Jeff Dowler CRS - The tradition doesn't happen every year, but we do try to stay in touch.

Dorie Dillard - It is kind of surprising that so many of us have remained local, so we can easily connect.

Mine was also 7th grade and her name was Leona Mallman. If I can find an old yearbook I post her pic for you.

Fred Carver-Top Realtor Victoria, BC - It was amazing how many still lived in the Greater Sacramento area.  I knew where a couple of my classmates were.  And, they also seemed to know where an additional classmate or two was.  We also found them by using People Finder, and other similar methods.  The boys were much easier to find than the girls, who often changed their last names when they married.

Why do some of old farts in the back row look so mad, Myrl? I see you were teacher's pet. You know, 1952 was the year I was born, and look at you -- in 4th grade already and the teacher's pet!!

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents - 1952 was a really good year.  As for the old farts in the back row, some of us just get cranky in our old age!  I seem to have the opposite problem.  Very little bothers me anymore!

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat , A wonderful post and I actually picked you out before I read where you were standing. I don't recall that anything from my childhood school days still exists, LOL. Dumped everything when my Mom passed on and her home was sold.

I am doing fine, just working on a couple new listings coming up. Thanks for asking though.

William Johnson - One of the things I did in the past few days was to Google the name of the elementary school I attended, and the city.  When I clicked on "Images"  I came across several other old class pictures from my school days.  You might try doing it with your school and see if any pop up.  I'm glad you are doing ok, and are just busy with business. . .That's a good thing!

We make it easy. You make it home.

That must have been quite a feat to locate as many classmates as you did. Glad to see that you were able to get some together. Yes, memories fade...I don't remember too much from 4th grade, myself.
