You Can Keep The Change

By

Time from time there are posts about featured blogs, or those “changes” and it seems that AR does not really understand why members often are not thrilled.

Last post about featured posts with grammar and spelling mistakes had a comment from Kerrie, where she asked if we know how to filter “featured” so that we see them.

I believe it is symptomatic. Can’t we filter and see featured? Yes. So what’s the problem?

The problem is that featured posts were important not only for those who were following them, but for the rest of the readers, and they used to be prominently displayed.

The problem is that it was way better before, than now, and it is not the first change, which makes communication on AR not better, but more unnatural.

ChangeI wonder who they have there, who knows what we need and who know it so much better than we do. Somebody who is so confident s/he is doing us a favor with each of these changes.

Kids love to play, but where are the bosses? And for quite some time already we are not even asked.

Actually, not true, We are asked after the fact, and when people are exceptionally pissed off, something is done, like they added this filter, so that now we could be able to read featured posts without the need to surf through all this added BS, that they stick on the page now.

Do people still read featured? Yes, those who filter. And what about those who do not filter? They do not read, unless they run into it. Funny that AR would implement the change, and then seem not to be interested in results. I believe we now see featured posts with fewer comments.

But this is the result of a series of changes, that are all aimed at mimicking communication instead of real communication, which we had.

After last update I started seriously considering leaving AR. Because they would never hear me, and would never understand me. Every day now I come and wonder, which genius decided to get rid of our comments on the Home page. That’s how I kept in touch with people. I would go back and recheck the blogs where I left a comment and re-engage…

Can we do it now? Sure. If you tag me, then I would even know that I left a comment on your site. But it is now not in my hands, it depends on other people.

The "genius" who came up with this idea has no clue about communication, and does not really care how people communicate. Not pretend to communicate, but how real people caring about real people communicate...

Kerrie, do you hear me? Who is the captain of this ship now? Who is the brain of the operation? Who is allowing this once a very bright concept become so dull?

It is not? Then you are, probably, a newbie :)

It is a heretic idea, but it feels that on this side of AR, among members, there is more concern about AR and more goodwill about it, than on the governing side.

Jay Thompson corrected me saying that Zillow knows about AR. Why we don’t see it? Is anybody there asking the same questions I am asking? Does anyone feel our frustration? Zillow, where are you?

Look at the blog page and count non-listing blog posts. If you are not lazy, go 7-8 years ago and do the same… What a different world it was. The naïve world when we thought that things only get better. But here comes the change…

Got tired of this change… Why change? Can we get back a dollar?

And you can keep the change…

Hi Jon Zolsky, Daytona Beach, FL ,  In the past, I always checked to see who commented on my blogs, then I commented on theirs.  It was an orderly way of keeping in touch with your followers.  i usually had about 18 to 20 comments I had to make every day to keep it even.  Now I receive 1 or 2 comments a day on my blogs, but now I get a lot of likes from the Q & A section.  What's wrong with this picture?  What happened to "Blogging"?

Larry Johnston - signs, those smily faces are also a way to communicate. Is this what we want? Is this how we want to communicate? But these kids at AR know better :)

Jon- I can only speak for me, but I do think comments are down. And I do have to search for the people I follow.  It's not been as easy.  Change can be very frustrating.

Yes, I also don't like the changes they made to the home page.  I have selected featured only, and that helps, but the majority of people, esp new people, don't know about this.  I think it makes it harder to retain new people because they are seeing lower quality  content.

I also think it's unfortunate that the features get less visibilty and fewer comments.  On the other hand, maybe some of the new people get more comments.

But overall, I'm not a big fan.

Kathy Streib - don't we believe that the thought might be material? That if AR does not see value in features the way we do, and do not cherish not the sport of it, but its wisdom, there is more sport and less wisdom.

There is a line which you do not cross. If featured means the highest quality content, then the content is the key, and not the idea of featuring newbies, or different people.

I do not nderstand the complaint that the same person is featured and featured as long as her/his content continues to be of highest quality.

Debbie Gartner - don't you have a feeling that we speak different landguage than the official AR? We see things so differently, that it is even scary.

Hi Jon Zolsky, Daytona Beach, FL changes that are good or bad just keep coming. Maybe someone someday will get it together and it will become better. That is a wish and a hope. Who knows if they are listening. At least a few of us did. Have a great day.

I'm fairly new here, but what's really irritating me now is that they removed the ability to upload photos from my iPad.

About two months ago, Kris Neese said it would be fixed in about a week.  That didn't happen.  Kerrie La Guardia said she'd let IT know of the issue and asked me to contact IT.

After doing everything they said, IT concluded I shouldn't use an iPad.  What a disappointing response.

I tagfed Kerrie on a blog thread that discussed this issue, but I never heard back.

Jill Murty, Realtor - Serving Orange County, CA - I did not know about it, but it absolutely does not surprise me.

The funny thing is that even after they would make a mistake, they would never go back. They would either find some substitute, or simply forget about it whatsoever.

Jon, I seldom pay attention to the featured page unless one of the people I subscribe to made it there and I needed to return a comment.  I do agree it is irritating when I land there now to see a "popular" blog post and it has no comments and is a listing.  I do as always and go to my home page.  I hope things get better here for you because it is frustrating.  Say "Hi" to that talented daughter of yours, for me!!!

Jon, the times they are a changing...as with any corporate merger that happens...it goes the way of the dominant power...been through it many times in corporate...who knows where this will go...

Bruce Walter - yep, listings and market reports became popular... And questions like which is your favorite football team become the most important on AR...

Are they trying to show that the world is more than just listings and market reports? But the whole AR initially was not about listings and market reports...

Ginny Gorman - with the way things were going for AR, any merger could mean one of the two things: remaining what it was, or geting better.

We do not see getting better...

The only thing constant in this world is CHANGE.  It would be nice to be able to the long term plans any vendor (including this one) has for their 3 to 5 year and 10 year plans to make sure we are aligned with them.  Unfortunately, that is my objective, which is seldom shared by vendors.

Jim Paulson - I am afraid it is not change, it is enthropy. It means that to maintain any system the way it is, one has to constantly maintain the system, or it goes into disrepair.

Change is the move, not the direction.

The way AR does it is weird. They had an excellent system of communication, with real lisve and talented peole talking.

Any platform could only dream of it. So what they did? They are little by little changing to a one, which mimics it. A lot of platforms mimic it because they do not really have a real one. AR would give up the real one to look like others. I believe that people, who took AR over never understood its real value.

So, they are changing (at least the way they are changing) not because it is needed, but because they see the value in crp outside, and are bringing it here, as they do not value what they have. They might not see it.
