Family Fun and Prizes Tonight in Downtown Camas
To some, the terms “Friday Night” and “Poker” conjure up the image of a bunch of guys in a smokey room dealing cards and talking sports. Not exactly “Family Fun”. But it’s a different game at Camas First Friday’s Poker Tour. The key word is Tour. It’s a clever way for the Downtown Camas Association to encourage families to come downtown on a Friday evening, enjoy the vibrant community scene, while playing fun games.
Here’s how it works: as you stop into each business you visit, you pick up a poker card. The ultimate purpose is to collect as many cards as you can, then take them to Camas Antiques, the event’s sponsor. For each poker card you turn in, you are dealt a regular playing card. The top 5 poker hands of the evening win prizes donated by local businesses.
There are also other family-friendly games throughout the event and more chances to win prizes: Downtown Dice roll, Guess the Game Piece Jar, Bingo, Lucky Rollers, and more! This Friday will also feature the grand opening of B&B Fish Market, a welcomed addition to downtown. Camas Bike and Sport will offer free bike demos, including the new Raleigh Electric Bike.
In addition to fun games, there will be several art exhibits featuring Pacific Northwest artists. Elida Field Art Studio, will be featuring a Teen Art Show, including paintings from children’s book “Alina’s Escape” by Savannah Deochand. Camas Gallery, will have live music, and will be showcasing Mickie Skinner, known for her realistic portraits of animals and nature. Second Story Gallery, (upstairs at the Camas Public Library) will also have music and will feature “I See Beauty Everywhere,” a photography exhibit by Myrna Leija, a local artist who captures the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
Some of the downtown businesses will be donating a portion of their proceseds to Mercy Corp, a relief agency working in Nepal to provide much-needed basic care and shelter.
