When I was a little girl, I can remember going out to the strawberry fields on Wadmalaw Island and picking the reddest, sweetest strawberries I had ever tasted. As an adult, Jim and I have been to the same fields a few times, and I have to say that some things never change.
If you have never had a fresh strawberry right out of the field, then you have no idea what you're missing! There is absolutely no contest between those and the ones you find in the grocery store. Even around here the "local" strawberries in our stores pale in comparison to the ones right off the vine. So with those memories, I'm so happy to see that the 11th Annual Strawberry Festival at Boone Hall Plantation is about to kick-off. This year's festival will be held on April 19th and 20th 2008. This festival features a large variety of attractions and activities that are guaranteed fun for all ages. A Giant Ferris Wheel...a carousel...the unique Berry-Go-Round...jump castles...slides...and a carriage ride around the plantation...all are just a few of the amusements available for families to enjoy. There's also music of all kinds, clowns, recipe and pie eating contests, and much much more. And no visit to Boone Hall during this festival would be complete without a chance for the family to pick their own strawberries from their U-Pick fields. It's two fun filled days and a great way for families to kick off the spring each year.
And, of course, there will be sweet red juicy strawberries a-plenty that are grown right at Boone Hall Farms. According to Boone Hall Farms Director Of Agriculture Brock White, this crop will be here earlier, taste sweeter, and last longer. Admission will be $4 for adults and children 12 and under $2. Discount ticket packages will be available for all rides, food, and strawberries, making this year's event more affordable for the whole family.
