Are you Armed?

In my previous post Tom Arstingstall brought up the point of security and safety of agents having customers in their cars.

That brings another point to mind.  Do you carry when showing property?  Up to now I haven't.  I have a concealed carry permit, but I don't have a gun that is easy to carry.  I am considering getting one, however.

I have seen some stats lately that say many agents are now carrying.  I don't know if it just media coverage or not, but agents seem to be targeted more often now than I remember in the past.

Do you carry?  Would you consider carrying?

I hope it is a 'media thing' only.  That is scary to know that ANYONE is 'carrying' Roy Barker .  Hope the world has not gotten down to this.

Thanks for the reply Bruce.  It is scary, but it is also very real.  We have seen some personally (not toward us, but agents we know).

I would rather it wasn't this way, but I will protect myself and my family if I have to.  I said in another post that we generally have a relationship of some sort built with our customers before we put them in our car, but there are a lot of other issues out there right now. It may not be your customers that you need to worry about.  We have walked into 'vacant' properties to find people in them.  We haven't had confrontations, but certainly might have.

I certainly understand why an agent would not carry.  If you are not properly trained and ready to use the weapon, don't carry one!

Thanks Kristin.  It is very scary.  We have some areas we have to go into, or through,  that are very crime prone.  I'm sure most agents have those areas as well.  It should not be that way, but it is.

I would and I have when driving through D.C. late in the evening.  Once you've had a group of people crowd around your vehicle and one even tried to open the door on the passenger's side, you learn that showing a handgun will scatter the group.  Of course the car doors are locked.

Would I use the firearm to protect my life or those in my vehicle with me?

In a heartbeat.

I would not announce it online if you do not carry a weapon.

The saying if guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns applies. Have you ever been the in the sights of a gun wielding assailant? That action pretty much seals the deal for me.

I would also NOT announce it if I did. I think some would be more likley to challenge you. Just want to see how fast you are.
