Looking for family fun in Farmville? Then you have to check out First Fridays.

First Fridays In FarmvilleThe Farmville Jaycees have been hosting the event for over 15 years.Bouncy houses at First Fridays are a big hit with the kids.Improbable Cause First Fridays takes place right next to High Bridge Trail. Why not ride there? The sounds of laughter and music echo from the sides of the buildings. Children dance, while groups of adults stand and talk. Others relax on blankets and chairs. The warm smell of fries and hoagies waft in the air. This is the typical scene at First Fridays, an event hosted by the Farmville Jaycees each summer.

The most recent event, held on June 5th, featured the classic rock and blues sounds of Improbable Cause and attracted an estimated 300 attendees.

With two First Fridays already in the books, this year's series is in full swing and the Jaycees have more good times lined up.

The schedule for the rest of the summer includes Gypsy Road on July 10th, Bobby Blackhat Walters on August 7th, with Southbound finishing out the series on September 11th.

A blend of music, family fun and the laid-back weekend vibe make these evening shindigs on the banks of the Appomattox at Riverside Park a beloved part of the summer experience in Farmville. In case of soggy weather, the venue is changed to the near-by Farmer's Market. With delicious food and icy beverages available on-site as well as bouncy houses for younger guests, there really is a little something for everyone.

Whether at Riverside Park or the Farmer’s Market, First Fridays have become part and parcel of the increasingly vibrant life of Farmville's rejuvenated downtown area.

The Farmville Jaycees, a civic group comprised of young professionals, have been running First Fridays for over 15 years. Community sponsors help fund musicians and expenses. In addition to providing an excellent source of family fun, the group uses the proceeds to help local non-profit agencies. According to Jaycees’ Secretary Cam Newton, they were able to give over $5,000 dollars to local causes in 2014.

This combination of giving back coupled with a great time seem to be working well for the Jaycees. According to Newton, "Our attendance continues to be strong, especially when the weather cooperates. We are thankful to the Town of Farmville, our generous sponsors, and community for their support."
