For the decorating class I was teaching I used small bean crocks that I found at the thrift store. There were 8 or them and I didn't know what I was going to do with them but being only fifty cents a piece, I bought them. I used some to hold staples, erasers, paperclips, etc.

I needed a craft to do with this group of women I wa teaching. I thought about it and came up with filling the crocks half way with plastic, tranparent beads, and then filled it with artificial flowers. These made cute centerpieces. I already had the flowers and the beads so the whole project cost $4.00 and eight people got to take home cute centerpieces.

For the three extra people I had I used glass creamer containers that I collect. Everyone like the way they turned out and it was cheap! Three going down a table would look really good. Next time you need a quick centerpiece, head out to garage sales, thrift stores, and even your kitchen. I showed them how to take a colander and turn it over and put flowers in it. Underneath the colander, you put a glass of water so the flowers can drink.

GREAT ideas! I'd never heard of the colander one; I'll have to try it!

If you are going to use real flowers, make sure to put a small vase of water underneath, and you might have to remove leaves from the stems in order to make the flowers fit. For the class I taught, I used faked flowers with skinny stems. If you have holes on the sides of the colander then the flowers can go in there also.
