By now everyone has seen footage of what the devastating floods did to Central Texas and the surrounding areas. Our Wimberly neighbors to the South of Austin experienced what happens when the stars, moons and planets all align just so and produce the literal perfect storm. You can still donate and help those impacted by clicking here, and supporting the Salvation Army via KXAN News.
Those in Midtown saw their share of scary moments up and down Shoal Creek, along with those near The Arroyo Seco which cuts through much of Crestview / Brentwood. My family was traveling home from time at Nana / Paw Paw's in NW Austin when we hit a few scary moments on Burnet Rd. Several cars definitely looked as though they might have taken in water traversing intersections that were deeper than anticipated. My wife, white knuckled, wondered if we were going to make it home.
After some zig-zagging through different intersections we found our crossing via Justin Ln (albeit there was water cresting over the road). The Arroyo at Payne Ave was well over the top and rushing South toward Koenig Ln. These two photos were taken just South of Payne Ave where the Arroyo was near the top of the banks.
Below you will see where the channel running between Alegria and Goodnight ties into The Arroyo. I would say there was a bottle neck with it's ability to properly feed downstream!
Those towards the West end of Madison Ave in Crestview experienced some trouble with a street drain and saw water rise above the curb and into their yards. One resident decided to make the best of the situation and break out his paddle board.
