I once heard a wonderful story about a guy that was far from the smartest in his high school graduating class, yet well liked.  He graduated with his class after struggling for four years and had no plans of going on to college.  He was friendly, kind to everyone, and went out of his way to make those that were less popular and picked on by the other students feel good about themselves.

No one expected him to do much with his life.  He had done well in high school auto mechanics and most everyone believed he would pursue a career in auto repair.  So when he arrived at the 20 year class reunion, everyone was surprised to see that he had a driver that delivered he and his wife to the front entrance of the hotel, in a very expensive limousine.

Out of politeness, no one asked how he achieved such apparent financial success.  He joined his former classmates and the usual introductions of spouses, photos of the children, and remembrances of their high school days were shared.  He took time to approach each of his classmates and with a genuine smile told them how good it was to see them again.

After a while, someone finally asked the question:  "So, I heard you started your own business some years ago, and it looks as if you've done quite well.  What is this business of yours?"  

He replied, "It's very simple.  I buy widgets for $3.00 and sell them for $6.00."  Everyone stared in amazement at the simplicity of his "business plan."  Yet everyone knew WHY he was able to make this business work.  Though he struggled through math and science, when it came to knowing how to make others feel good about themselves, he was at the top of his class.
