Montana Ranked #1 in the U.S for Start-Up Activity

While you may not think of Montana as the sort of place to house a higher number of startup businesses than say, Silicon Valley, it surprisingly is. A new report from the Kauffman Foundation which produces an annual analysis and ranking of start-up activity in every state ranks Montana as the number one state for entrepreneurship and business creation in the nation.

The top three states at the top of this year’s report are Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota. Why? Oil. All three states border the Bakken region where thousands of workers descended on small and relatively unprepared towns, creating a boom in many arenas. Baby booms, housing booms and yes, business booms.
