School is out! It’s time for pools and playing in the yard, maybe a few beach trips? Okay, who are we kidding? We know summer is all about the kids because we adults are stuck at work. For some of us we’ve been faced with our children wondering around the house exclaiming the usual “I’m bored” or “it’s too hot” and that case, they may be right! With the heat index reaching record highs, your kids aren’t just complaining, it really is too hot! Well don’t fret, cooler temperatures are just around the corner and it seems like this weekend may be the perfect time get out there and enjoy some slightly cooler sunshine. Starting tomorrow, June 19th from 6pm to 10pm, and Sunday, June 20th from 9am till 3pm, head on over to Efland, NC & check out Hog Day, a rain or shine event! This event has been going on for 33 years & it’s the perfect chance to hear some live music, do a little shopping, and dig in to some delicious barbecue! Hog Day is the largest festival in Orange County and is proud to offer vendors with one of a kind handcrafted gifts and entertainment with their original BBQ cook off contest with some veteran cooking teams while they prefer the art of BBQ! Hog day sees about 50,000 visitors annually which is great for our community with 100% of profits going towards supporting projects, schools and nonprofit organizations within Orange County. This is for sure a great event for all ages. And if you’re not so big on the idea of joining the crowds, bring your kids down to the Orange County Public Library on Saturday, June 20th, for the live “The Hero Showdown” event! Find out more information here.

Okay sure, the weather will only get hotter again, but thankfully the Orange County Public Library is offering a great way for kids ages 8 to 12 to beat the heat and sneak in a chance at some summer learning! On Wednesdays, starting yesterday June 17th until July 8th, bring your kids from 1:30-2:30pm and let them take to the stage with reading and performing a variety of scripts! Don’t worry, no acting experience is needed just the need for some fun!
