Not All Smoke Alarms Are The Same

Since my last blog was on safety, how about one more?

According to one recent television news special, today's smoke alarms work great for adults but are not effective in waking up children.  New England news station WHDH-TV tested traditional smoke alarms on various children from ages 1 to 11.  They found the children are likely to sleep through the loud beeping of alarms.

However, when talking alarms using their parents' voices were used, the children woke up within 2 minutes, usually in less than one minute.
