Does Speed Win Business?

 

That is a rather open-ended question - isn't it?

The word "speed" can conjure many different things.

 

Last  week I met with 3 different General Contractors to get an estimate for some work a seller wants done on their San Jose Home before it is listed for sale.

 

Contractor #1:  Called me 30 minutes before our confirmed appointment and said:  "Are you coming? Are you going to be here?  I said yes, we are confirmed to meet at 11am.  He said, well I am here now. I will wait for you.  Great. I am on my way. 

He gave me a verbal estimate for the work. He promised he would send me a written estimate to forward to the seller for approval. 5 days later I still do not have the written estimate. He does not have email.

 

Contractor #2: Very professional on the phone. We scheduled time to meet at the property. They were there waiting for me when I pulled up. I was not late.  I arrived about 3 minutes before our appointment. 

We discussed what needed to be done and the expected time frame.  I asked for a verbal estimate. He said "I'd like to sit down and go over what needs to be done and provide you with an actual estimate."  Perfect.  When can you get that to me?  I'll have it to you by the end of the day.  And, he did!

 

Contractor #3: He said he would send one of his guys to the property and get back to me. I did not hear anything back from him. The next day I sent a text message:  "Did your guy make it to the property yesterday?"

His response:  "Yes. He did."

My response: "Perfect. Thanks. Do you have an estimate for us."

His response: "Not yet."

My response: "Thank you. Can I expect it some time this morning?" 

NO RESPONSE. 3 hours later I sent another text "Any response is greatly appreciated. Thank you."

5 hours later he responded: " I will send you the bid later tonight." That was at 8pm.

It's the following day and I still do not have his bid.

 

I sent the seller an update and status early this morning. The seller approved one of the contractors with the following statement:

"We have a belief in my company, speed wins business."

 

Which contractor do you think Kathleen recommended?
