Scallop Season 2015 Opened in Hernando Beach, Florida
As of this weekend, scallop season 2015 has opened in designated waters off Florida's Nature Coast.
Recreational Scallop season began June 27, 2015 and runs through September 25, 2015.
Many people will go out and harvest these delicacies from the sea but there are limits to observe as follows:
Allowance Per person:
2 gallons whole bay scallops (in shell) or 1 pint of scallop meat
Maximum Allowance per vessel: 10 gallons of whole bay scallops in shell or 1/2 gallon bay scallop meat.
Scallopers who don't have their own boat can either rent a pontoon boat from the various marinas in Hernando Beach or go on a commercial scalloping charter.
Of course, Hernando Beach waterfront residents are able to just jump into their own boats docked behind their homes to participate in the scalloping fun as well as other boating adventures.

Don't know how to prepare fresh scallops? Here is an easy recipe to try and enjoy:
Garlic-Lemon Scallops
3/4 cup butter
3 tablespoons minced garlic
2 pounds sea scallops
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
Directions:
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Stir in garlic, and cook for a few seconds until fragrant. Add scallops, and cook for several minutes on one side, then turn over, and continue cooking until firm and opaque.
Remove scallops to a platter, then whisk salt, pepper, and lemon juice into butter. Pour sauce over scallops to serve.
Serves six.
Bon Appetit!
