After July 6th, In Charlotte Area You Need to "Roll to Recycle"

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Realty 179530

Charlotte green recylcing binsAfter July 6th, in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area, you will need to "Roll to Recyle," as recylcables will no longer be collected from red bins or non-City issued containers. Using a 95-gallon, green, City-issued rollout cart will be the only way to receive curbside recycling collection after July 6th. The rolling recycling bins look just like the grey trash bins we've been using all along, except they will be green in color.

If you haven't already been using the rolling bins to recycle and have not yet had a green recyling bin delivered to your home, you can get one by calling CharMeck at 311 or 704-336-7600.  And if you've been recylcing this way for a while and need a second cart, you can use the same phone number to request a second cart, which will cost $40. Your second recycling cart will have a different color lid which will easily identify it as a second cart. Collection service for two recycling carts will be provided only to homes with a primary recycling cart and an identified second recycling cart.

We have those too, but our recycle bins are black with blue lids instead of all green -- yours look prettier.

Hi Nina.  Recycling makes a lot of sense.  Everyone seems to have different colors.

Good morning Nina. Recycling continues to be very important thoughout the country, but there are still many that just don't participate.

Make it a great weekend!

Good morning Nina. My wife is way into recycling.  Personally I'd throw it away but not living in this household...

James Dray ~ good morning, James. NY City was into recycling by law over 25 years ago, so I'm well trained. When we first moved to Charlotte and found out there was no requirement to recycle I was amazed.... but I do it anyway. Somehow feel guilty if I don't!

Conrad Allen ~ good morning, Conrad.... our old little recycle baskets were red. But I guess green makes sense since we have this program as part of Charlotte's "Go Green!" program.

Joe Petrowsky ~ good morning, Joe. Interestingly, we have no requirement in Charlotte to recycle. We just have rules if you recycle.

Pamela Seley, Realtor good morning, Pamela. Our normal trash bins are a very dull grey... the green for the recycle is to keep with our "Go Green!" program in Charlotte.

Joan Cox ~ good morning, Joan. This is quite a big change for those who didn't switch over to the green bins a couple of years ago, but for some reason I have seen virtually no information out there about the impending change.

Rob Thomas ~ we have a number of recycling centers here in Charlotte as well and that's an option, but for most of the day to day recylcling stuff it's much easier to fill up the bin and roll it out on pick up day.

George Souto ~ the big trash bins have been around in Charlotte at least since we moved here in 1998. They introduced the green bins for recycling maybe two or three years ago, but they weren't mandatory. In fact recycling still is not mandatory in Charlotte. But if you recycle you don't have any choice any more about which bin to use.

What a blessing to HAVE roadside recycling. We do not have that here in our one horse town. That's awesome!

Hi Joni Staples ~ we do have recycling centers where you can bring your stuff, but I just can't conceive of putting garbage in my car and driving somewhere to dispose of it.

Roy Kelley ~ hi Roy... amazingly Charlotte does not require recycling, but if you choose to do it, they now make it easy for you to do son.

Nina, just curious about the reason for using the larger rolling bins. We are still using the smaller square bins that you carry to the curb.

Nick T Pappas ~ we collect recyclables only every other week and the small bins don't hold much. So this is one way to encourage more recycling. Besides, when the small bins fill up if weather is bad, paper gets wet and is no longer recyclable and more of the garbage gets strewn on the street.
