I love Corpus Christi during the 4th of July. Corpus is just about 4.5 hours down the road from where we are in beautiful Central Texas. Again I suggest carving out about 6. There are a lot of historical markers on the way. I am doing this blog a week early in case you want to take that trip down to the coast you have plenty of time. Plus next weekend I am going to be talking about all the activities around here and at Fort Hood!
Corpus Christi where to start....The beach of course. I love this area I have been to a number of different beaches around Corpus but my favorite beach-hang out is probably Mustang Island. This link will give you a number of things to do on Mustang Island. Mustang Island but I just like to hang out on the beach and play in the water. If you go to Mustang Island you MUST go to Port Aransas which is not hard to do since the island is not that big and you can take the ferry to Port Aransas. Fun ferry fact if you get out of your vehicle you just might see a dolphin or two or six. Be prepared to wait it is not always quick. In fact I don't recall I time we didn't have a short wait but it is worth it. Check out the ferry information Ferry Info. I have a number of friends that enjoy going to Port Aransas to fish.
My next favorite beach, again just to hang out because that is what I do at beaches, is North Beach. This if for a multi-fold reason. First the water.
Second the U.S.S Lexington- The Blue Ghost. If you have NOT had the privilage of being on this aircraft carrier you are MISSING out! There is so much to see and do aboard ship that you will definatly have to hollow out a few hours. U.S.S. Lexington Check out hours and prices. Just another little tidbit on the ship....it is suppose to be haunted. I personally have never seen a ghost...but aren't all old ships suppose to have ghosts? I do not suggest going on the 4th of July. The have a lot of activites. I do suggest hanging out at North Beach that evening sit on a sea wall and watch the fireworks over the water. I also don't suggest if you have childeren to try and see the Lexington and the Texas State Aquarium, which is right next to it on the same day. Tried that one year let's just say it was not beautiful. Between the walking and heat you are going to end up with some grumpy Guses. I really enjoyed the Aquarium, first it is nice and cool and second I like the marine life. You don't have to be a child to enjoy it. They have different exhibits at different times of the year Texas State Aquarium.
This is my usual itinerary in Corpus. Get up have breakfast, go to the beach, have lunch, check out a site (museums, aquariums etc), a nap can be thrown in here and there, spend the evening relaxing.
There are many other sites to see in the area if you have time go to Padre Island.
As for me I just got to Corpus to relax.
Happy beach trails y'all and be safe.
