Landmark Decision- Same Sex Marriages Now Legal in US & Real Estate News
Today was a historic day in the United States when the Supreme Court ruled that Same-Sex Marriage was legal. This has been a long battle and finally the states must adhere to the Supreme Court ruling. Many states that had banned this practice, this morning had started issuing marriage licenses to same sex couples.
How will this affect real estate? I see it as a very positive situation because so many couples have not been able to enjoy the perks given by government regulations to hedrosexual couples for many years.
Now more couples will be able to get married, set up house and probably want to buy their dream home together. Other roadblocks will be torn down such as State and Federal taxes, Inheritence regulations, Medical insurance policies and Retirement benefits and will now be amended to include these deserving couples who have waited for many years. With these benefits available now, many couples will have more cash flow to qualify for a home.
I see that this will give a huge number of couples more financial stability and feel more secure in purchasing real estate together.
After todays ruling, I think more people will become acceptable and their mindset will change for the better. Gone are the days of closed minded people who want to keep others down. The US now promises that all Americans to be given equal rights to marry no matter what their sex is.
As real estate professionals, we should be ready to help these new couples to buy homes together.
