As the only Realtors in Wisconsin who are certified both in traditional divorce...and trained in Collaborative divorce, emotions and Client's legal expenses can run very high. The he said/she said ...If she would have ...He should have blame game is often part of the process you are exposed to as a Realtor. "He didn't pick up his furniture, She didn't get rid of her collection of....," you come to accept it as part of dealing with the anger of the situation...Divorce has no face...and sometimes the Realtors become that face, ear, sounding board for all that has gone awry in the relationship.
Some couples are keenly aware that when they talk to a lawyer...understandably, the lawyer charges of his/her time. Bills sometimes tend to taper the conversations or eliminate the minor irritations and their own problem solving takes over instead of using the legal sounding board.
Our contact after the initial "engagement" and listing of a property is usually quite limited The lawyers receive copies of the listing, they are made aware of when there is an accepted offer and are sent closing statements.
Occasionally...there is a problem...showings are not allowed, one or the other doesn't want to sign this or that ...and that DOES mean involving the lawyer to continue the transaction.
As long as there is cooperation...legal involvement and subsequent attorney bills are minimal...the couple cannot cooperate with each other...and we become the mediators of what is often more of a power struggle. If they don't want more legal bills...it is best to be resourceful...step back from the emotional involvement and continue to move in a positive direction.
That can mean...sleeping on a choice...finding another resource...enlisting the assistance of friends. What was once a decision for two...may now be the responsibility of one.
If you or anyone you know, in southeastern Wisconsin is divorcing and requires the services of a Realtor...Call the Hansons...the only Realtors with dozens of successful divorce related transactions...right side up and upside down. We would be honored to be of service.
