Camas First Friday Presents the Dog Days of Summer
Mac, our white Golden Retriever, is pouting. That's because we are going to miss July's First Friday event when Camas goes to the dogs. We'll be in Alaska visiting family at that time, and his pet sitter won't be taking him. Poor Mac! It's easy to understand his disappointment as the Dog Days of Summer sounds like wonderful furry fun.
First of all, you're encouraged to bring your favorite pooch ( leashes required) and make a night of it in charming Downtown Camas. Naturally Healthy Pet is the sponsor and will provide cooling pools and icy treats for hot dogs. The local forecasters are predicting temps close to the 100 degree mark. Fortunately, the streets in downtown Camas are lined with cooling shade trees.
An Evening of Dog-Lovin' Adventures in Downtown Camas
The fun gets underway at 5PM and continues until 8PM with doggie fashion shows, and games. For example, the West Columbia Gorge Humane Society will have information about dog adoption and will feature a a "Find the Treat" game for your dogs. Fashion forward pooches are encouraged to enter the fashion shows to be elegible for prizes. There's no entry fee and prizes will be awared for the cutest, most creative, and funniest costumes.
There will be live music too, and particpating Downtown Merchants are sponsoring a guess the dog breed at each shop location. Guess them all and earn tickets to win great prizes from the merchants. Kids can stay busy with dog themed craft stations and naturally you can shop, dine, enjoy art, and celebrate the community with friends and neighbors.
We're proud of our community and charming Downtown Camas. Those of us who call this area home enjoy the small town atmosphere and laid back lifestyle. Yet, we have easy access to nearby Portland, Oregon when we want a bigger city experience. If you're considering a move to Camas, we'd love to be your guides.
