What should I be doing right now?

several years ago, a Realtor friend called me to tell me that she had listed a home for some former clients of mine. They called her because, even though they thought the world of me,they thought that I was too busy to handle their needs. This was a wake up call for me. Nothing will kill a thriving Real a Estate practice as quickly as people having the perception that we are too busy to handle their needs.

A wise man, Zig Ziglar ,once said that "we all are allowed the same 24 hours in a day. No more no less. It is what we choose to do with each of our 24 hours that determines our level of success".  We can't save time, as we can money. We can only spend it. There is no account anywhere to stash extra hours or minutes. Now, sometimes, the most productive thing to do with our time is to relax and recharge. Burnout is not something that we want to deal with.

I once was asked "Steve, what would be your goal as far as time spent in your business?" My answer was " I would like to spend 100% of my working hours in front of buyers and sellers". Now we know that that is an impossible dream as we do have a lot of side paperwork and other tasks that go with each transaction. None the less, we should make every effort to be their when our people need us. The other stuff can wait. I am fortunate in that I have 2 wonderful ladies who handle a lot of the side stuff for me. They are worth their weight in gold! If I had to do what they do (which doesn't require a license), i could never be as productive.

Since that phone call, to my knowledge, no one has the perception that I am "too busy" for them. My goal is for each one of you clients to feel that they are the only ones on my agenda , at that moment. There is always early in the morning and the evening to take care of the extraneous "stuff" that comes with our business.

Thanks again for reading and I would appreciate any other suggestions that any one has. After all, regardless of how many years we have in this business, we are learning every day. Steve Houck

I think there's a fine line between letting your clients know how busy you are and treating them as if they are the only ones you have time for. It's a tricky balance. I think by doing follow up with past clients it helps show that you've got time for them. If you keep in touch you'll be the one they call!
