Three ways to ensure success with less stress.

Three ways to ensure success with less stress.

We have become a fast-paced society, where changes can occur last minute with clear performance expectations set by consumers. Everyone needs to be committed to working together as a team to ensure things are moving along smoothly to accomplish the clients goals.

Here are 3 tips to help:

One point of contact only. After receiving four different emails from 4 individuals in the same office, the closing date almost fell through the cracks because one or the other thought the other one was taking care of the client when not one or the other other one was actually following through.

Maintain good communication. Ask for best way to keep in touch, phone, text, fax or email. Answer questions in a timely manner. Be clear and concise with instructions and requirements. No one can read inner thoughts or try to decipher some jargon, especially shortened versions of industry related info

Be available. Return phone calls. Send out pertinent information ahead of time, rather than waiting for clients to call and ask. If scheduled for a vacation, let it be known who will take your place during the absence, rather than assume that someone else will just pick up your responsibilities.

Some transactions in progress can be tedious at best but if everyone maintains focus while working together, success can be attained with less stress. It is extremely important we all participate fully for our clients sake and to enhance future business opportunities. Happy sales all!

Yes, one point of contact copied on everything and YES keeping communications concise and clear. Having a transaction manager that is truly adept and keeping her/him informed on all the details really helps. Great post, Wanda!

Communicate who is going to do what and get a commitment. I've been in the same situation where everyone thought the other was doing it and turned out no one did it and that creates stress at the last minute.

Excellent tips. Staying in sync can help prevent those stressful situations.

I had to chuckle at your first point. Years ago I was heavily involved in animal rescue and being frustrated over all the politics, power struggles, and back-stabbing going on.

Once when things were being particulary irksom, I wrote an email to the membership saying that "Somebody else" got fed up and quit today because nobody (something) that anybody could have done and everybody wanted done..."

My point at the time was that everybody was passing the buck, saying "somebody else" should have done this or that. I was telling them that "Somebody else" wasn't going to do it. She was gone.

I forget just how many somebodys, nobodys, everybodys, and anybodys I had in there, but it was pretty silly.

I immediately got a reply from a member who said "Oh no! Who quit?"

Pamela Seley, REALTOR® When people fail to do their part, it creates a domino effect that cannot be avoided! I like to stay ahead of the transaction, rather than writing up an addendum last minute because someone did not read or get the memo.

I love your story Marte Cliff, it makes perfect sense to me! Granted, things will go wrong and that can be accepted but not when someone knows what they should be doing and is not following up or through with their responsibilities.

Wanda, excellent post and also very common. As a lender my first bad experience happened back in 1995. Sure a lot has happened since then and I have worked with people on both sides that take responsibility. In this business and in many other industries I see breakdowns happen. Otherwise, let's keep a good attitude and continue helping people with their biggest decision in their lives!

Well done Wanda Kubat-Nerdin It really should be that simple, but we all know that's not the way it usually goes.  In all relationships, not just real estate ones, communication is king.  With the myriad ways we all have to communicate available to us via the latest technology, I am not convinced it has improved much.  It is an inherent problem with most people and I am not sure why.  Again, it is so simple but clearly very elusive to many people.

I especially like #1.  Please, tell me one person I should deal with, don't say 'any four of us can help you'.  Then I will pick one and deal with that individual!

Liane Thomas, I'm working on a transaction that I have a 'page' for multiple contacts, email addresses and phone numbers in 2 states and 3 cities. Oh, and my clients are in Europe for a month.  It's going smoothly so far, but getting everyone on the same page is a bit tricky.
