"Hide and Seek" with a Moose
First of all, I would never get out of the car and "seek" a moose- they can be canterkerous and are best left alone. This time of year the cows might have calves and they are especially dangerous when protecting their young.
Yesterday, I was driving down Pipsissewa, in the Village of Red Feather and spotted a huge bull moose! It was raining, but I had to stop and try to get a photo.
Then he moved behind a small tree....trying to hide?
"I can still see you!"....
He knew I was there, I just wanted to see those beautiful antlers! Come on Moose- "come out, come out wherever you are" He moved further into the trees.
It was a busy day, I had several things left to do- and really no time to spend waiting for Mr. Moose to give me a break....and then
Finally! I see the antlers. For this day, I thought it was the best I could get. I also saw a young buck in velvet with surprisingly large antlers for so early in the season, but the minute he saw me, he turned away. That's OK. We're so fortunate to live with and see wildlife everyday. I can't get a photo everytime - just grateful for the opportunity!
