Do you feel it? I don't. It was a clean break like if we never met. Usually there is memory or an after thought that causes one to reflect, ponder perhaps even look back briefly but that effect is not at play here. Does anybody have "miss you" or thanks for the memories type feelings? No negative just no love
THANK YOU ANN
As we all go through life together, let us take stock if we are giving all we have to give so that others and ourselves can say they were better off for the contact or the coming together. Ann Landers, a deceased former columnist said it best and I always like to share it because it makes good points
PREPARE TO ANSWER
Are you better off with or without this person...YES or NO. When I first read that, I formed a list in my mind and then started asking the question. You can only say yes or no. No pausing, explanations or stories. YES or NO are you better off with or without this person. It can be phrased past or future tense as well
I had more yeses than no's but I had some no's! Some people were not part of the "better off" dynamic sorry to say but honesty and reality must be respected. On the yeses, they were a plenty and all good enough
NEXT
Sometimes we see the error in others and fail to apply it to ourselves when we should apply it to ourselves first and then as well as the source. If its for you, then get to working on it and if it is not you, move on not doubting in anyway nor with regrets to your next life episode.
SOME EXAMPLES TO THE ANN LANDERS QUESTION
A new BBQ place opened near me a few months back. The place was packed as most grand openings or new things are. The smell of the scented woods, the slow cooked meats, the aroma of the sauces and spices plus a line out the door said this is great. Are we better off for it?
THE TAKE-AWAYS
Currently, it is expensive to eat there and the lines are gone. The food is good but now we see it for what it truly is as time does reveal all things. So it is with many things. A good agent, movie, book or travel experience is talked about. So are the bad ones too. End result. The BBQ place made me better off
SCHOOL EXAMPLE
Ever been separated from something? A person, place or thing? It is one of the truest tests of connection value that remains self-evident. I remember as a kid the summer coming which meant no school for me and I never said, Oh, I am going to miss school! LOL...No love there...to be sure! Better off without school!
WORKS BOTH WAYS
I remember the old story of a guy who was not a team-player and had a a vacation coming up after a long, tumultuous year. He goes on a two week vacation and the place ran better with out him. He comes back and is fired. This makes my point but in the opposite way. Better off without him here...
PERSONAL EXAMPLE
I remember going away for a 30 days and my wife yearning for my presence. I missed her voice, contributions and her little ways as she did mine. I told her to fly out to where I was and we can drive back together. Elation in the air! The test of time-away spoke to both of us. Both better off!
MY KIDS AND SCHOOL
Now I remember how I couldn't wait to have my kids go back to school after a whole summer of them being around day and night. I thought being away in school and having homework was the perfect balance. I even added vacations and special outings. Better off in school!
GRAND CHILDREN
Now, as a grandparent, I love em and leave em and from what I hear from others, I am not alone in this experience. Why? We parents did our parenting time. However, better off with them without a doubt. Yes to them and may they say about us the same thing. That we were better off with them then without
So you see all these are tests of how much we got into something or that something got into us and for us to take note of it and proceed accordingly
