But, it needs to be done efficiently, and correctly, in order to save time, and preserve the family from added stress.
Any builders with this reputation are gold; some clients won't even share their names with friends, hoping to keep their, "go-to" guy's calendar free, for their own projects.
My husband has known some great builders, and he's also discovered some true disasters, while he served as the building inspector for several local Snohomish County, WA jurisdictions, and the building official for Mill Creek, WA.
He's sure been making a lot of noise, lately! He's been watching those, "home repair and rescue" television shows, while recoving at home from knee surgury, and seeing some of the big messes created by well-meaning owners, scurilous previous contractors, plus various, "uninformed building inspectors". (Not around here, of course!)
Now, not all states use the same regulations or standards, but certain things are common sense, too. Railings too wide even for my grasp, certainly impossible for children or seniors, are just one item on our "loud groan" list. Another favorite, decks slanting into the house, contributing to the decay of perfectly good siding.
Or, here's a good one; the home-owner installed flooring, all cut to the same lengths, without staggering the end seams properly.
We've been amazed to watch lovely tile bathrooms undergoing extensive demolition, because of inadequate waterproofing placed behind the initial tile installation. So far, ruined bathroom tile jobs, count for the highest groans per hour!
Until he's better, I'm keeping him busy by helping me create my own sculpture, "installations." I'm a fine artist, working from home. (Ahem, trying to accomplish my social media strategies, and write a personal promotional article, while husband is at home; yikes!)
My cementitious acrylic fine art sculptures* have sure benefited from his strong hands, (cutting the copper wire armatures that are inside), and helping me prepare for a recent magazine article, plus; the entire family has enjoyed watching the real estate rescues, while listening to Phil's hilarious comments!
Any "groaners to share", anyone?
