Remember, there are things about the home you can easily change, and other things that are difficult to change, or cannot be changed at all. Try to overlook cosmetic things such as paint color, wallpaper, and carpeting. Most homeowners will want to add their own touch by redecorating anyway. Light fixtures, faucets, sinks, and counters can easily be changed. Even the “popcorn” ceiling can be removed.
Instead, focus on the structure, the design, and the layout of the house. These are things that cannot be changed easily.
Another example is a family with babies or toddlers. They usually want to have the nursery right next to the master bedroom, so parents can get up to nurse the baby during the night. They feel safe and secure having the master bedroom near the children’s bedrooms. On the other hand, families with teenagers usually want the children’s rooms as far away from the parents as possible. Then the teens can play their music as loud as they want, without disturbing Mom and Dad.
Keep an open mind. You may be surprised that you end up loving the house you thought you wouldn’t! You may feel unsure about a house and you may be thinking, “This is just not the right house for us.” Then you go inside the home and start walking around, and get a good feel for the house.
