How DARE I be Open on July 3 - I did not know i was suppose to close

WHY would any Real Estate agent be working on July 3? It is a Holiday after all according to "Mrs. Big time national agent" who felt the need to call and yell at me for being open on July 3. Seems like a Buyer contacted her to see my new listings, she said she was closed and could not show it. SO they called me, I answered my phone and said yes the house could be shown.

 

On my follow questions are you working with another agent? They said yes, and named her. I told them they would need to contact her to contact me as i could not show her clients a home without her. They were even More mad, but nit at me, her... they looked up a home online, she contacted them as they were on that companies national web site, they never met her, she has not shown them any homes but they signed a buyer broker agreement anyway. (not sure why they would do that without interviewing her). 

 

In the mean time agent like me work when potential buyers and sellers do not. This could be the busiest week before July 4th ever for me. Yesterday alone 1 new listing, the phone rang all day, 5 showings, 4 bpo's for a bank and countless new potential clients from every nice person who called and would tell me how happy they were to reach a "real person". 

 

 In Summary Buyer and SELLERS need to know that a GOOD agent handles many aspects of  Buying and Selling a home one may not think about.  The HARD truth is that your choice in agents will affect how well your purchase or sale goes. A home needs to be priced right to start. A home needs to be marketed and advertised properly. A home needs to be prepared for showings inside and outside. A Buyer or Seller can hire just anyone and hope and pray they found a good agent, but not all will. Some will learn a hard lesson especially if you make a BAD decision in agents.

 

The hard fact is do not choose just any agent, choose the BEST agent for the job. My philosophy is simple, provide more personal and professional service to guide my clients through each step of the buying or selling process. Scott we need to work when it is needed - that's simple enough. I've got a home inspection to go over with clients and I'm fine with that.  If I need to go show a home today that's fine too. But at 5:00 the pool party starts and that's when my holiday begins!

Scott Godzyk ... I had some strange reactions to my availability on July 3rd too.  From dismay that I answered the phone ... to attitude when I said I wasn't at the office at 7:30 last night.  Crazy.   Like you, I try to accommodate my clients as best as possible.  If someone chooses not to work at any time, that's cool.  But expect there to be some fallout from it, it you do??

I got a new listing yesterday. I was answering my phone, but not in the office. The seller came in asking for me. I made myself available in spite of the company in from out of town and the fact that I had just finished working in my garden for the last hour. I will work. Just call me.

I was "Open" on the 3rd, and did a "Preview" today of homes on the 4th. We set our own schedules, or at least that's what I do.

I spent Friday showing out of town buyers and will be working with them again today.  We had the appointment set for 2 weeks.  When they are available I am available.

Our office was closed on Friday but I was there in and out all day, started by putting sign and lockbox on listing, showed a home, prepared for listing appointment then ended with the listing appointment.  I think I was the only one in the office.  I did dedicate yesterday, to my family's 4th of July event.  Unfortunately there are those with an attitude.

Thank you all for your comments. I appreciated the couple of calls to check me. No i did not let her comments bother me. I work hard every day and holiday or not, if there is work to do, i will be there to do it. My clients were very happy i spent so much time with them, helping them sell their home or helping them find their dream home. I was able to take Saturday afternoon of the 4th off and relaxed up the lake watching the fireworks and re-charging.
