Bedbug prevention techniques for you

By
Industry Observer with Responsive Pest Control

Hi all: We are being blessed with amazingly warm weather for this time of year in Seattle. I hope it continues.

With that in mind, I wanted to share with you some bedbug prevention techniques. First of all, please understand bedbugs don't discriminate. We here at Paratex find bedbugs in 5 star hotels and hovels. Bedbugs started making an alarming comeback about 10 years ago. If there is one common symptom, it's the increased frequency of travel.

Bedbugs are travellers by nature. They will hitch a ride in someone's suitcase or bedding that has been purchased. There are some good prevention techniques that have been proven effective.

1) Avoid purchasing used bedding or furniture if at all possible.

2) If you're staying in a hotel , ask them about their bedbug prevention program.

3) If you feel like you may have a bedbug problem, call in the experts.

Right now bedbugs  are flourishing. But with a sound prevention program that may include a bedbug sniffing canine, pesticides, heat or even fumigation, the problem can be eradicated. After all, who wants to be bitten by bedbugs! Thanks for reading! Have a great day!

Paul, what do hotels use for pesticides and how harmful are they to us if we sleep on a mattress that has been treated?

Sharon: What we use is of low toxicity, EPA approved and dissipates quickly. Theoretically hotels can use a room within minutes after treatment. Most choose to wait for up to 24 hours. Hope this helps!

Paul - I know that these critters can appear anywhere.  It is important not to contaminate by thoroughly washing clothing from an overnight stay at a hotel.

Prevention from bedbugs  . . . . is preferred to having to treat them.

Good luck and success.

Nice prevention techniques. When you are staying in a hotel it is very necessary to ask the hotel about their bed bud prevention programs because in hotels the risk of bed bugs is quite often. Therefore, it is necessary to do bed bug exterminators in ct as a preventive measure in hotels as well as in homes.

Paul McFadden - subjects like this make me itch but I am so thankful for this post and alert! What really bugs me a lot about hotels, is that they want to save water (so they say) and prefer guests use the same sheets. In the back of my mind, I always think, even if I want clean sheets and towels, there's no guarantee I'm getting my sheets changed. I wish they left samples of EPA approved products in every room.

With so many travelers and costs for staying in hotels, motels, etc., it truly is a problem and it could be avoided.

 Thanks Paul!

Patricia: Yep. That's why we do well here as we ease everyone's fears. It reminds me I need to target lodgings more. Thanks for that reminder!

Well, this makes me want to stay away from motels and hotels.  We had a motel here that they tore down as it was realllllly bad.

You can always ask what their procedures are. That's a good place to start.
