Have you ever noticed how there are always some Realtors who just won’t respond when you try to reach them?  When I am working as a Buyer’s Agent, I am always stunned at the total lack of response from some listing agents.

Did they put the sign in the ground and then enter the witness protection program?  Do they answer the phone when their sellers call?

 witness protection

I have witnessed this more than I like to think about this summer.  I am with my clients and try to reach out to the listing agents and I get nothing, notta, zilch!

My clients ask me what is wrong with agents who can’t even bother to answer their phone.  They wait along with me for the illustrious response.  Don’t the listing agents realize that they are looking like big Duffuses not only in front of me but also in front of potential buyers (or even existing buyers on their listings).

I always wonder why sellers select agents like this to begin with.  Were they Johnny on the Spot when they called full of promises to keep them informed and be communicative throughout the process?

If I conducted my business this way, I would soon be out of business!

Come on people.  We all know you have your phones with you.  When it rings – just touch the ACCEPT button and let’s do this.

Do you think it's the hot Colorado market that is making sellers agents not feel as if they have to respond to buyer inquiries as fast?

Very frustrating and I feel bad for the clients they represent.  How am I suppose to show a property if it requires an alarm code, gate code, etc and they will not call me back with that information?   Wish all agents I interact with daily, were more professional in that regard.

Belinda Spillman I totally agree. Answer the phone I may have another offer on the new listing you just entered. If not text me back and let me know you can't talk now and when I can expect one. At least that.... come on people!

Belinda we seem to experience that same behavior when we're going through a hot market such as yours right now.  I have no idea why agents don't respond as it's their job. At the very least they could text back and say sold.....or not taking anymore offers as we have a gazillion of them.

Hi Belinda - Anna is right. We have seen a huge increase in this kind of unprofessional behavior since the market got crazy, but that's a really poor excuse for treating peers with disrespect.

I don't understand how these agents get hired either...but if I had to guess, I am suspecting they are willing to work for substantially less.  People tend to get what they pay for.

We have some agents in our area that don't work on weekends at all and even have messages saying so. I don't know how they manage that and how the sellers don't get upset.

Belinda, it’s to the point now that when I answer my phone, almost always, agents are surprised. They even say thank you for answering. I guess it is such a rare thing that it spokes people when it happens. I do feel bad for the sellers for what they are getting … and then I say … they choose that agent.  We get what we pay for and we get consequences with our choices.

Belinda Spillman

REALLY? There are agents who don't answer the phone or text you back? LOL

Seriously I think it has gotten worse. Perhaps it is, in part, due to the market. ON the other hand I have had some terrific agents who are very quick to respond, etc. so it helps to balance out those who are not quite as accessible. You certainly can't properly represent your seller clients' needs if you don't answer the phone about showings, offers, etc. And like Kathleen I have had a number of agents, and buyers and sellers, say thank you for picking up the call

Very frustrating! They give the rest of us a bad rap! It amazes me that they got the listing in the first place.

That is so unprofessional and so frustrating!  I think leaving a sticky note on the front door saying, "we tried and tried calling your Realtor to see your home, but she never picked up the phone or called us back"  signed potential buyer.

Let's see how that would work for that agent.

"Witness protection program", that is a good one Belinda.  It seems to be a thing for more than listing agents these days, just about everyone is overbooked.

Hi Belinda - I too like your term "witness protection program" to describe this phenomenon by some listing(and selling) agents.

As Kathleen Daniels commented - I've heard surprise on the other end of the phone when I answer as if the caller doesn't expect an immediate pick up. Answering immediately is not always possible(with clients, driving and bathroom breaks are three examples) but a timely response is always welcome.
