The 3 Biggest Mistakes People make on the Road to making it Big

The road to success is exciting and at the same time nerve-wracking.  Trying to make all the right moves is ideal but impossible.  Inevitably, there will be highs and lows.  Recognizing some of the common mistakes people make on the road to making it big can help you avoid them yourself.  Or at least respond quickly should you hit a pitfall.

  1. Procrastination.

Making it big means taking on big projects.  Taking on big projects can lead to procrastination.  And it's tough to get ahead when procrastinating.  According to millionaire Matthias Schmelz, the key is to start somewhere; anywhere.  Take each big project you have and break it down into littler, more manageable pieces.

No matter how small each step may seem - it counts.  And now you're no longer procrastinating about your great idea.  Take this process further by free writing or drawing to loosen and relax your mind.

  1. Letting fear take over.

Ever wonder what the naysayers are going to think about you making it big?  Matthias Schmelz says don't worry about it.  One of the biggest hindrances to success is the fear of what others will think about what we're doing along the way.  In reality, most people don't care what we're up to - they have their own lives to worry about.  This leaves us free to do what we wish.  So now you can weigh the risks and the benefits to decide your course.

Still fearful of what others will say?  That's okay.  To some degree, a healthy dose of fear keeps us in check. Remember, if it keeps us in check it also keeps our competition in line.

Don't forget to check out successful people who are doing what you want to do.  Study their techniques and figure out how they overcome obstacles.  Study their methods and adopt what works for you.

  1. Feeling guilty.

Want to be your own boss but feel guilty leaving your company?  First and foremost, successful people are loyal to themselves.  When they see opportunities they grab them.

This doesn't mean quit your job first and develop your own project second.  It does mean having your plan in place before taking big leaps.  As Schmelz points out, we cannot jump from a moving train and expect to land on our feet.  Have your plan in place to account for the bumps and scrapes you might experience when you do decide to take that leap.

This does hit the nail on the head.  Sometimes it gets hard to stay motivated due to other issues that arise or the task seems too big.  By cutting it up into smaller jobs, we can keep ourselves on track to meet our goals.  Keller Williams has a great program for time management and goal setting.  It has allowed me time to enjoy more personal time.  Whatever system you use, to make it big, don't make these mistakes!!
