John Robert Fox
Thanks for stopping by and taking time out of your day to read my post. My intent is to put a smile on your face. Hopefully you’ll go away with some information you may have forgotten about or did not know. Now sit back and enjoy the post for the day.
John R. Fox born in Cincinnati, Ohio May 18, 1915. He attended Wilberforce University and after graduation was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1940. So what is so wonderful about that you may ask? Well let me tell you a story about Mr. Fox. During WW ll Second Lieutenant Fox was a part of the 366th Infantry Regiment in the U.S. Army. In order to save the lives of his fellow soldiers Second Lieutenant Fox order an artillery fire on his own position thus assuring his own demise. This alone should have earned him a medal but no not yet. You see Lieutenant Fox was a African American and back then (early 1900’s) African-American soldiers had been denied consideration for the Medal of Honor solely due to their race. This all changed in 1997 and he along with another 6 African-Americans who served in WWll were posthumously awarded that medal. He also won the Distinguished Service Cross, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and a Combat Infantry Badge. If you want you can read more about this brave soldier who gave his all for defense of this country.
