Time to be a proud dad again this week

3 weeks ago before Activerain was back in private hands, I got to write a post on my other blog about my daughter winning the championship in HGSA for the 2nd time in 3 years. Well, the family gets to boast again as my son's team also had a great weekend.

My son who is one of the pitchers for Tigard JBO had a good year, but, not a great one. So, on Wednesday night we thought they had played their last game. Then come Friday morning we get a call saying, pull your uniforms out, we have been given a wildcard birth in the tournement to go to state.

Now, I have to say, this wasn't good, 3 of our 13 players left for vacation the day after the season was over. Leaving us only 10 for the game on Friday afternoon. (That was the wildcard game) If we won that we were in the tournment. Now, the team stepped it up and won! We were in the tournment of 16 teams and the top 4 got to go state.

This tournement was a two game elimination tournement. Now, one thing our team lacks was depth of pitching, we have two real pitchers, my son and another boy. Each kid was allowed 11 innings of pitching during the tourement. Being each game is 7 innings, this wasn't looking good for us and we knew going in.

Well, we lost the first game, that was expected, we were going up against a power house team that had beaten us all year. They played tough, and put up a fight, but it just wasn't enough. Then came Saturday morning, we had to miss the first half of this game as we were volunteering at the Special Olympics.

This was one were also supposed to lose, we were playing another team that had beaten us all year. But, our boys rocked it! They were hitting, they were fielding, they were on a mission! They played hard and won that one and we were on to the 2nd of the double header.

Now, this is where we were really expected to lose, we had 2 pitchers and one was down to 2 innings and my son down to 3. Leaving us 2 innings really without a pitcher. We got an early start on them with our hitting and my son came up pitching his heart out, despite his arm hurting because all the pitching having to ice it between games.

We were up at the begining of the 6th, but we were out of pitchers. We brought out someone who had only pitched a few innings all season and even his dad cringed when they put him on the mound. Told him to just toss the ball across the plate, don't worry about speed and let your fielders help you!

He did, they got a couple runs in, but, our fielders helped him out and they kept them to only 3 runs despite having the bases loaded at the end of both those innings. No one knew it, but that win earned us a spot in the state championship tournement starting Thursday.

We still had one more game on Sunday morning and that was for 3rd place. Somehow, we managed to win that one as well, even without our pitchers. (So, we ended in 3rd place) So, now off to state and hopefully our few boys there were missing will be back by Thursday for state.

WAY TO GO NAT AND THE REST OF TIGARD JBO, we are so proud of you!
