When I got the call for this inspection I knew I was in for a long one. The house was built in 1947, so I knew it had been remodeled who knows how many times, upgraded undoubtedly. The question is, who done all these modifications and upgrades and are they done to best building practices. Ok, stop laughing... I knew the answer to that question.
So maybe this blog will start a series of "what not to do", but for this blog let's talk about the laundry room. It was a nice sized room, I saw the water supply hoses, the receptacle for the washer & dryer, and the vent for the dryers was in place. Most people don't leave the washer water supply hoses attached, so I took a closer look and the hoses went into the wall and disappeared! What the... Where do they go?
I found that answer in the master closet. Evidently, that was where the original laundry room was at. But in the bedroom closet?
Remember when I said there had been much-o remodels and upgrades? Well, I doubt the water supply was placed there by the contractor in 1947, so somewhere down the line that was added, and then again, someone moved it into the other room on the other side of that wall.
So, to turn off the water supply to the washing machine, you have to walk around to the bedroom, go into the closet, pull the nifty little cover out they built to conceal the water valves and washer drain line. Probably not the best or quickest if you have a flooding emergency. The electrical supply was passed through as well, but they did a nice job of using junction box's to protect the connections.
Here we go, adventuring into the unknown! I get a kick out of finding little treasures like this in an older home. Sometimes I even laugh out loud, or say "sweeet" out loud. I'm sure we will find more treasures...
