7 Deadly Sins When Going on Vacation and Your Home Is on the Market
When selling your Clarksville home during the summer, vacation plans may get in the way. No worries because you can still keep the ball rolling, having buyers look at your home and leave on vacation, too. Hopefully while you are away an offer will come in and your home will get sold.
Life goes on even when you are selling your Clarksville home. Don't feel guilty about leaving or worry that all marketing will stop. If you leave things in order you will be in good shape and your agent will love you.
However there are 7 Deadly Sins When Going on Vacation and Your Home Is on the Market. These No-Nos will likely kill a sale and scarce off any buyers you may have.
1) Don't deny showings while you are away. In fact while you are away is an excellent time to show the home as it will not be inconveniencing you or your family members. Buyers like to look when nobody is home and a really interested buyer will not wait until you return to look at your home. They would have moved on.
2) Don't try to save money by cranking the thermostat up to an uncomfortable level. This will make buyers think the unit isn't working properly or that you may be having financial problems. Keep it cool and buyers will likely take their time and really see the house.
3) Don't let your mail pile up or newspapers litter your driveway. This makes a house look deserted or like a possible foreclosure. And it is a sure sign to thieves that nobody is home and the owner is away or has abandoned the property. Have these held for delivery or have a friend or neighbor pick them up for you.
4) Don't let the grass go without cutting until you get back. Tall grass shows neglect and kills the curb appeal. Make arrangements for it to be cut by a neighbor or a lawn service.
5) Don't forget your potted plants and flowers need water while you are away. No water will kill their good looks. Get a friend to drop by and water them for you and check on the house while they are at it.
6) Don't leave pets alone while you are gone or fail to take out the trash before you leave. Garbage cans or dirty clothes can smell rank after several days of sitting closed up.
7) Don't blab to everyone you know and on social media that you are going away. Even while you are gone someone could be monitoring you social channels and your home. When you return from your trip, that is time to share all the great photos and good times. Let your agent know when you will be gone and check in with your agent or be available by phone, text or email. I never bother my clients while they are away unless of course it is good news of an offer.
