Ask an Ambassador - How Often Should I Blog?

Activerain BlogThere are varying opinions about this topic and I am going to address several approaches. Newbies may be thinking that they cannot keep up with the regularity that other bloggers have.

Now I will say it, it doesn't matter what others do, do what works for you. If you can only write one post a week, that is okay. I will say that you might make it a really good post so that it will get lots of mileage on the web.

Those that are posting every day do it for enjoyment and because they have established a pattern for their business. When you have done it awhile, it gets easier. They use templates, the formats are generally the same and they have a list of topics they repeatedly write about.

If you are able to write several each week, decide what it is you want to accomplish. I blog for business and also to share with the community. I have a dual purpose. So I have a blogging plan and that means so many of each type of post each week. Remember some of these are for me because I just want to share.

Relax and don't stress about it. Have you tried to sit down at the keyboard and let the words flow? Many are blogging and using their blog like a journal. If that is your purpose there is room for you in the Rain too. If you want to be the expert on local events, I can promise you that you will get calls about these events. Every year I write about Halloween events and Christmas Tree recycling. I have to make sure I have my facts right because my phone rings. It makes me smile and I answer the questions and also ask about their real estate needs. So far I cannot pinpoint any new business from writing about localisms. This may one day produce fruit. Until then I will continue to write about them. Other writers don't touch these topics with a ten foot pole because they do not want the calls about these events. Different strokes.

There is no right or wrong as to what you blog about or the frequency for you. Do try to be steady though. If you post weekly or biweekly keep it up. Not posting for long periods of time makes it harder for people to keep up with you and your followers will stray. If you post several times a week and people comment on your posts, reciprocate and comment on their posts, too. This will help you formulate new ideas for new posts and also give you tips on how to make your posts better.

Blog a little or blog a lot, it is up to you. Remember if you are into points, you get 225 points for each blog post up to 10 per week in ActiveRain. You can blog more than 10 times a week if you wish but you won't get points for those over 10. Any comments you get on those posts will get you comment points.

Roy, this is a good choice for a re-blog. I haven't been able to post as often as I'd like- but this reminder brings it to the fore-front of my plans!  I'll be jumping over to Debbie's original post to comment as well!
