Clinton is a town in Hunterdon County, NJ which was formed within portions of Clinton, Franklin and Union Townships and it was incorporated in 1895.
Considered a "bedroom community" for many commuters working in and around Northern New Jersey and New York City, the Town of Clinton is well known for its two historic mills which sit on the South Branch Raritan River, the Stone Mill and the Red Mill. Both of them closed and became cultural centers. The Red Mill, on the west bank of the Raritan, is now the Historical Museum, privately owned, and Dunham's stone mill on the east bank is the Hunterdon Art Center.
As far as transportation the town of Clinton is situated off Routes 31, 22 and 78, which provides easy access to and from Newark, New York City and Philadelphia. There is bus service through Trans Bridge Lines to and from Pennsylvania and New York. Plus, Clinton Town residents benefit from the railroad station in Annandale with limited weekday service.
The Clinton-Glen Gardner School District is based in the Town of Clinton and serves students in pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade at Clinton Public School. Students in ninth through twelfth grades attend North Hunterdon High School in Annandale which is part of the North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District.
The area in Hunterdon County where Clinton is located is mainly rural with scattered housing developments and old farm homes. Real Estate in Clinton features many well preserved buildings, that include commercial properties (retail, restaurants, etc.) in the village area. As far as residential properties, there are both single and multi family dwellings. The town is home to a variety of farmland.
