Brown is the New Green: Door-knocking to encourage Water Conservation

Newbury Park, CA, July 19, 2015, by Kathy Smiley, Rodeo Realty: With California's water shortage comes unusual measures..... First of all, if you live somewhere with lots of rain and no TV or newspapers, you might not be aware the western United States is in a major drought.. Extreme drought... Some of driest years in 106 years of record-keeping..

So gone are our lush, green yards... (Unless of course you're Tom Selleck! LOL! See Actor Tom Selleck settles suit for water "theft").

For once it's acceptable to allow your yard to turn brown around the edges - or all over! Here in the Conejo Valley communities of Agoura Hills, Oak Park, Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park, and all over Los Angeles and the state of California, we have been required to cut our water consumption by 25% (some areas up to 35%) to comply with Governor Jerry Brown's Executive Order.

Public and notable buildings with large, lush green lawns - like the famed Los Angeles Mormon Temple, have stopped watering their famed grounds. Others, like Malibu located Pepperdine University, are trying out ideas like de-salization and re-claimed water for tending to the turf.

Whether you have people knocking at your door or not, here are some good tips for conserving water, no matter where you live!

When I saw this I thought instantly you must be in CA. I heard the other day that Japan turns sea water into drinking water... Why can't California do that? Aren't Americans the smarter group of people?

Hi Dan! Well, that's a great question. There are coastal areas doing that, but they say the cost is over the top and the negative environment footprint is hard to sell to the public. :)  http://www.latimes.com/business/hiltzik/la-fi-hiltzik-20150426-column.html#page=1

Conserving our water and other energies are everyone's responsibility. I hope they don't wait until the water is gone to make the changes.
