When Buying a Home in the Portland Metro Market . . . Don't Forget the Schlep Factor!!
Buying a home in the Portland Metro real estate market is GREAT now that the sun is out, and we have wonderful summer weather.
Buyers look at beautiful homes and imagine the possibilities, as they should!
Last Saturday I was showing properties to my client and came across the "SCHLEP FACTOR" that they hadn't considered.
The home is located on a nice parcel, on a generous lot which borders Tualatin River. Wonderful views, gorgeous river front and a modestly priced home.
Problem was . . . getting to it!
The home was situated at the bottom of a very steep slope. It took about a minute to walk down the cement stairs. Thankfully, there were strategically placed handrails.
I could only imagine what life would be come raining season
It would be a SCHLEP to take groceries from the car, down to the house. It would be a SCHLEP to walk to the house to the car or garage. And the exposure to the weather . . . made this house have the dreaded SCHLEP FACTOR!!
I suspect, the 60-year old home was once a "second home" . . . a Shangri La weekend getaway from days gone by. Sure, bring the victuals and a few weekend over-night bags, then camp out. But when the city grew up around the home it's now become a full-time residence with a major SCHLEP factor.
